Commitment to Education

It’s been a busy summer for Forster supporting a large number of community and industry projects. On a local level we were formally recognised as Ambassador’s for Business in the Scottish Executive Enterprise in Education scheme which seeks to develop effective partnerships with local businesses, communities and schools. Through this partnership we successfully recruited a Trainee Quantity Surveyor direct from his 6th year studies at Brechin High School. Following this we also played a key role in the introduction of a HNC in Quantity Surveying day release course at our local Angus College, which was so popular it became over subscribed in its first intake!
On a regional level Forster has undertaken a significant role iin the development of Angus Construction Training Group, which is a non profit making group administrated by member companies to deliver cost effective quality training in our local area. To date we have organised a variety of training, examples of which include Scaffolding, SMSTS, First Aid and Assertiveness Training. Our group has completed a total of 175 training days to date, and we are only in our first year of operation!
On a national level, Forster is involved in a number of different committees, one of which is the Skills & Training Sub Committee facilitated by Homes for Scotland. The purpose of this committee is to evaluate current skills and training requirements in our industry and to create proactive and innovative means of supporting our member companies to achieve training objectives. 'Given our substantial investment in the training and development of our people, and in our role as a specialist sub-contractor we are looking to make a positive contribution' explained Forster’s Human Resources Manager, Maureen Douglas.
