Our Heritage
When Forster Roofing Services was founded in 1990 by John Forster, something was missing from the house builder and construction industry in Scotland. It wasn’t simply another contractor to supply and fix concrete roof tiles and slates.
The consistent message coming from the industry was of a need for investment in service, safety, customer care, knowledge and training to name some of the key areas. Companies wanted efficient and effective access to technical and commercial knowledge. They wanted service before, during and after the contract. They needed a contractor who understood safety culture and customer care for their customers and clients. They understood the need to bridge the gap in the development of a skilled workforce.
We believe that investment in all these areas has allowed Forster to enjoy constant growth year on year. Developing a consistent reputation with house builders, local authorities, housing associations, principal contractors and suppliers for achieving results.
In 1993 the company launched its first annual health and safety event. A safe and healthy working environment is as important today as it was then. In fact we say it’s safer to be at work with Forster than to be at home!
In 1994 we introduced dedicated customer care, now we have five teams dedicated to this role, coordinated by our customer service manager.
Investment in our local office network continues to grow. Our first regional office opened in Whitburn in 2000, now larger premises in Livingston serve our customers throughout Central Scotland; Edinburgh, Glasgow, Fife and the Borders. Our new office in Elgin is bringing a full scale Forster service to our customers between Inverness and Aberdeen.
We continuously strive to improve apprentice training, with a record number of young people training at Forster. In 2005 our first training centre opened at our headquarters in Brechin and our management training and development programme commenced.
So much to do and so little time! Investment in all areas of the business remains top of the agenda for the team at Forster. We always look to improve and we recognise that aspiring to be the best is a journey not a destination.
