Be Ambitious For Scotland Say Housebuilders
26 April 2007
Scotland’s house building industry has called for the new Scottish Parliament to set targets for growth that will give a major boost to the economy. Homes for Scotland, the organisation representing companies that build 95% of new homes built for sale in Scotland, wants to double the number of new homes built each year and has challenged the political parties to commit themselves to this target
Homes for Scotland Executive Director Bruce Black said: “Over the last few years new home completions have been running at around 25,000 per annum. Everyone now recognises that this is quite inadequate for the needs of the people of Scotland. We have now committed ourselves to doubling output to 50,000 per annum within the next 5-10 years.
“But we need active political support from the parties and really ambitious economic growth targets to make this achievable. We will be knocking on the door of the new Scottish Government to discuss with them how we can work together to make new homes more available and consequently more affordable.”
