Project:
Camperdown House Roof Renewal
Scope of Works:
Renewing defective slate to historic public building in Dundee

The stunning setting and imposing design of Dundee’s Grade A listed historic Camperdown House created the perfect context for Forster to demonstrate their skills in historic slating. Works to this Greek Revival mansion house were initially earmarked as minor slate repairs to the North Range Roof. However after further investigation, following scaffold erection, the works were extended to include stripping, salvaging and maximising the re-use of the existing Welsh and Scotch slate on both the North Range Roof and Main Roof. High quality second hand Welsh and Scotch slates were sourced to make up the required shortfalls. Care was taken to ensure a sympathetic match of slate wherever possible.
During the works the 708m² Main Roof was covered by a canopy to enable works to continue unaffected by the extreme winter conditions. The complex 1,258m² roof consisted of a total of 84 panels, including 7 dormers. Slates for 34 valleys were expertly cut, further highlighting the outstanding quality of workmanship on display. The main contractor was Muirfield Contracts.
